About the
Montgomery Volunteer
Fire Department
The Montgomery Volunteer Fire
Company was established in 1892. Since then the organization has grown
from a social club that fought fires to a professional department that
provides fire protection, emergency medical and rescue services. We are
one of the few departments that are not suffering from a shortage of
volunteers. We are proud to be 100% volunteer. We attribute our success
to strong management, standards, values, and a desire to serve those who
need us.
We are located in Lycoming County,
which is seated in northeastern Pennsylvania. Montgomery borders the West
Branch of the scenic Susquehanna River and US Route 15, eight miles south
of Williamsport, the home of Little League Baseball.
We consider ourselves to be an
integral part of the community. In our community, we have a strong
relationship with the citizens and the borough leadership. We have a
strong relationship with the police department and emergency management
agency. The motto in our borough is “Growing Toward Tomorrow”. The Fire
Company has bought into this idea and has excelled to the standards of not
only today, but also for the future. In Lycoming County, we have been a
participant in the Rescue Task Force and the Haz Mat Decon Task Force.
Both task force projects are designed to provide specialized services to
all of Lycoming County. By sharing resources and personnel we reduce cost
and have more services available to our community. We are enthusiastic
that more task force services will be available in the future and we are
proud to be a part of these programs.
Over the past 10 years we have
diligently evaluated our need for equipment and services. In 1990, we had
six pieces of apparatus, today we have four. Although the number of
vehicles has been reduced, the number of services we provide has
increased. We have replaced all apparatus and completed a major
renovation of the station, all in the past ten years. We concentrate most
of our efforts on preparing for and answering alarms.
