This incident was unique in that the patient was not trapped in a
"defined" trench upon the arrival of the first units. In the
pictures above, you can see that the patient is trapped by the dirt
pushing him against the wall of the home. When the dirt sloughed
off, trapping the patient, it essentially removed the dirt wall that
would usually need the traditional trench shoring for stabilization.
The only actual shoring that was needed was for a small ledge of dirt
that remained of the trench wall.
The patient was extricated in approximately 90 minutes and was
transported by MICU 94. |
